News and Events


All food served at the Queen is home-made under head cook Julie Hurst with the exception of our sour dough bread which comes from a local artisan baker. Julie has been preparing our menu since founding the kitchen some six years ago.

Long a pioneer of traditional, hearty, robustly flavoured food she has been sourcing produce from local suppliers since before the term became both popular and abused. In the past we have bred our own lamb, hogget, mutton, pork and beef for the table and what started as a hobby proved sufficiently popular that we open our own Butcher’s Shop for a number of years.

Although the menu changes daily and weekly we’ve listed below examples of what you might expect to find if you visit.

During Friday and Saturday lunch and evening and at Sunday lunch we offer a broader menu featuring traditional British dishes with the accent on meat, game and fish. You’ll find four examples of a typical day’s menu although we’ve termed them Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter to give an idea of how things change through the year.

During Friday and Saturday lunchtimes sandwiches are also available. On Sunday lunchtimes sandwiches and steaks make way for traditional roast topside of beef with Yorkshire pudding.

St George's Day (SUNDAY 23RD APRIL)

Traditionally we always hold a celebratory meal on St George's Day at 1pm. If you would like to join in please do call to reserve a table. You can take a look at the proposed menu here and remember to let us know if your party will require a whole rib of beef for their table.
